A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity Showcasing Diverse Artistic Charm

On May 9, 2025, S.K.H. Lui Ming Choi Secondary School held its Annual Cultural Performance at the School Hall, presenting a spectacular artistic feast for teachers, students, and parents. The event featured performances ranging from Chinese and Western instrumental music to drama, dance, and recitations, highlighting both the depth of traditional culture and the students' international perspective and creative talents.

Opening Dance Journey to the West – A Modern Take on a Classic Tale
The show kicked off with the school dance team's performance of Journey to the West.   The team received the Highly Commended Award in the 61st Schools Dance Festival. The students reinterpreted the classic pilgrimage of Tang Monk and his disciples through contemporary dance moves, set to the rhythm of popular music. The lively and dynamic choreography won enthusiastic applause from the audience, with the dancers' youthful energy instantly electrifying the atmosphere.

Sister School Collaboration – Harmonica and Recitation Showcase Friendship
The evening also featured a special appearance by sister school Shenzhen Senior High School (Group) South Campus, deepening cultural exchange. The harmonica ensemble performed Joyful Celebration, its fresh and vibrant tones captivating the audience. Meanwhile, the recitation team presented The Voice of Bay Area Youth, delivering powerful poetic renditions that showcased the beauty of Chinese literature and the students' passion for linguistic arts.

 

A Blend of Chinese and Western Music – Solo Performances Steal the Spotlight
The school’s Chinese music representative, Kwok Hui Wing, Theo (S.5) who just won the Championship of the 77th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival Erhu solo – Advance performed a solo erhu piece, Joy at the Door, its melodious tones painting a festive scene. The performer’s skillful technique fully conveyed the expressive power of the traditional instrument. On the Western music side, Ng Ka Lok (S.1) performed a piano solo of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 23 in F minor, Op. 57 (Appassionata) – third movement, Presto. It demonstrated his solid classical foundation. The rapid-fire notes and nuanced dynamic contrasts left the audience in awe.

 

Grand Finale – The Little Mermaid JR. Musical Wins Praise for Creative Adaptation
The closing act was a musical adaptation of Disney’s classic The Little Mermaid JR., performed entirely in English with singing and dancing. The ocean-themed sets and costumes added a playful charm, while the lead actor’s vocal prowess and character portrayal earned a standing ovation, bringing the show to a perfect close.
